ČECH GARDENS Čech Gardens were established in the years around 1830 with the planting of tree-lined lanes, later named Jánské Colonnade. This colonnade was cut down during wars, replanted in 1866, and now serves as a natural park dedicated to rest and reflection.The park has been known as Čech Gardens since 1918. The trees to be found here are common, local specimens; one of the most interesting varieties is Narrowleaf cottonwood (Populus angustifolia) from western North America. Park History 1830s Army plants a tree-lined lane, later called Jánské Colonnade. 1866 Colonnade is replanted after being cut down during war. 1882 Ownership of park property assumed by city. 1898 Park is enclosed by tall iron fence on brick base. 1918 Park named Čech Gardens. 1939 Johannes Lane 1942 Lights added to park. 1945 Again named Čech Gardens. In July monument to liberation of Olomouc unveiled. 1965 First use of Čech Gardens in exhibitions, more lighting added, overpass sidewalk opened, Kovo-Drevo pavillion opens. 1975 Flora Olomouc assumes operation of Kovo-Drevo pavilion. 1990 Overpass sidewalk closed to public. 1993 Bike paths added.
